Where to start, if you are buying one thing
Match it to what your dachshund actually does most.
- A couch or a bed it launches off several times a day - start with the stairs. It is the single most repeated impact in most homes.
- A leash that clips to a collar - start with the harness. Every pull lands on the narrowest part of your dachshund until you change where it lands.
- A staircase on the daily route - start with the wedges. Keep the stairs, take out the drop between steps.

What the research actually supports
- Weight is the lever with the strongest evidence. In the largest US study, 43,517 dogs, a healthy weight was associated with lower IVDD risk. We do not sell anything that helps with that one. It is free, and it matters more than anything on this page.
- Stairs came out protective, not dangerous. In the same study, regular stair use was associated with lower risk, not higher. That is why our stair product keeps your stairs instead of replacing them. Read what the study actually found.
- The case for taking impact out of the day is biomechanical, not epidemiological. No study has shown that jumping off furniture causes disc disease. What is established is that a hardened disc absorbs shock poorly, so the argument is about load, and we state it as an argument.
- No ramp, wedge, harness or bed prevents, treats or reduces disc disease. Anything sold to you on that promise is being sold past the evidence.

Which one should I buy first?
The one that matches the thing your dachshund repeats most. Stairs for a couch it jumps off, the harness if the leash clips to a collar, wedges for a staircase on the daily route.
Do I need all four?
No. They cover four different moments and each one works on its own. Adding pieces lowers the price per piece, which is why the discount is built in rather than run as a sale.
Does any of this prevent IVDD?
No, and we will not say otherwise. Disc disease in dachshunds is largely genetic. What gear can change is where the leash pulls, how hard the landings are, and what the back rests on.
What size does my dachshund need?

Two measurements decide the size
Use a soft tape measure, with your dachshund standing.
- Chest. Wrap the tape around the deepest part of the chest, just behind the front legs. Snug against the coat, not tight.
- Neck. Wrap it around the base of the neck, where a collar sits, not up near the head.
No tape measure? Use a piece of string, mark where the ends meet, then hold the string against a ruler.

The chest decides the size. Then check that the neck measurement falls inside the range for that size. Weight is only a starting point, because two dachshunds at the same weight can be built very differently.
Between two sizes? Take the one where your measurement sits nearer the middle of its range rather than at the edge. That leaves room to adjust in both directions.
What if the chest and the neck give different sizes?
This is the normal case for a dachshund, not the exception, and it is why a small-dog chart does not work on this breed. Go with the chest. The chest panel has to be the right shape to begin with; the straps adjust afterwards.
If the neck lands one size below the chest size, take the chest size and tighten the neck straps. If it lands one size above, take the chest size and let them out. More than one size apart in either direction, measure once more before you order - a tape that slipped or a thick winter coat will do it.
How to check the fit when it arrives
Put it on with your dachshund standing, then check three things:
- Two fingers slide flat under the neck band and under the chest strap. If two will not go in, it is tight. If your whole hand goes in, it is loose.
- The belly strap sits behind the elbows, not up in the armpit, where it rubs on every stride.
- The Y sits on the breastbone, centred in front of the chest, not off to one side.
Walk a few minutes and check again. Webbing settles once the coat flattens under it.
